About SHEAC

A youth-led environmental and biodiversity conservation organization based at the Institute of Forestry, Pokhara.

Who We Are

Our Story

Self Help Environment Awareness Camp (SHEAC) was established in 1990 at the Institute of Forestry (IOF), Pokhara, as one of the early student-led green organizations of IOF. Guided by the theme “Think Globally, Act Locally” and the message “Save the Environment,” SHEAC has promoted environmental awareness and conservation through student volunteering and community engagement. The organization was founded with a focus on creating awareness in the fields of forestry and the environment, particularly among rural and local communities, while engaging IOF students in voluntary conservation initiatives. Over the years, SHEAC has participated in and supported various conservation and environmental projects through collaboration with different organizations, mobilizing the knowledge, skills, and manpower of IOF students. SHEAC works to connect students, communities, and conservation initiatives by involving students in field activities, awareness programs, research, and other environmental initiatives. It also engages with local people and communities in villages around Pokhara, promoting practical approaches to environmental and biodiversity conservation. After years of functioning as a non-registered student-led organization and collaborating on different projects, SHEAC was officially registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the District Administration Office, Kaski, in 2026. Today, SHEAC continues its commitment to environmental and biodiversity conservation while creating opportunities for young people to learn, participate, research, and contribute to conservation.
